Haiti Disaster Response Options
OPTION 1 - New   The following materials are being gathered by Mission Central for Haiti Outreach Ministries, a non-Profit Organization: granola bars, peanut butter, blankets, soap, shampoo, and flashlights with batteries.  Items should be dropped off at the church.

OPTION 2   Monetary contributions can be given during worship, delivered to the church office or mailed to the church at PO Box 398, Stewartstown, PA 17363.  All undesignated monies received for Haiti will be split equally between UMCOR (The United Methodist Committee on Relief) and New Missions, a ministry supported by many in the congregation.  (Note: 100% of the monies sent to UMCOR will reach and be used in Haiti.)

OPTION 3   The following materials and supplies for Health Kits are being collected at the church for distribution to Haiti through Mission Central in Mechanicsburg.  (Please purchase or donate exactly what is requested here.)

Each health kit should contain:
1 hand towel (15" x 25" up to 17" x 27")
1 wash cloth
1 comb (large and sturdy, not pocket-sized)
1 nail file or fingernail clippers (no emery boards or toenail clippers)
1 bath-size bar of soap (3 oz and up)
1 toothbrush (single brush only in original wrapper; no child-sized brushes)
6 adhesive plastic strip sterile bandages
All items should be placed inside a sealed one-gallon plastic bag. No money, notes, religious or political literature, or other items should be placed in the kits.

 

Food Collections
Periodically food is collected for local food banks and other special requests. 

 

Missionary  Support

  • We are privileged to have a sister church relationship with Calvary United Methodist Church in Sierra Leone, Africa, in which we provide monetary and prayer support.
  • SUMC has long been a partner with United Methodist missionary James Keech.
  • Our congregation supports Church World Service and the Give Ye Them to Eat (GYTTE) mission in Mexico.

 

Helping Hands Ministry - York

Through the efforts of the 1784 Sunday School Class, the congregation is organized to reach out to the homeless of York by serving bagged lunches and hot meals twice a year.

 

Refugee Re-Settlement

A new ministry to our congregation, we are seeking to partner with Church World Service and reach out to refugees attempting to re-settle or re-locate in our area either through direct sponsorship or by providing welcome kits, furniture, household items and/or financial contributions.

 

Company of Praise Spring Trip

COP is for youth from 7th grade through college-aged students.  This group sings once a month a month in one of the Sunday morning worship services, concerts throughout the year, and on a spring mission trip, this year to places in Ohio.

 

Mission Trips

Teams of volunteers in missions from this congregation have served Christ in Mexico, Alaska, Louisiana, Sierra Leone and other places around the world.  In 2010, a group is already committed to go to Slidell, Louisiana.

 

Operation Christmas Child

A project of Samaritan's Purse, Operation Christmas Child brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations worldwide through simple, gift-filled shoe boxes and the Good News of God's love.
